Viva Bonaire!

Hey, all you wind addicts:

September is almost here. Some destinations are out of wind until late fall, some are in the middle of the hurricane season. But don’t get desperate just yet. If your get away time is in September here is the perfect hurricane proof spot with lots of wind and tranquility:

Bonaire

Part of the Dutch ABC islands, this sleepy spot doesn't attract crowds. It is peaceful, quiet and stress free. Turquoise waters, shallow beaches, schools of pink flamingos and abundant diverse marine life represent Bonaire. Don’t worry about the wind; you’ll get steady trade winds here in September averaging in 12 to18 knots.

The best spot for windsurfers is Lac Bay beach. It is a shallow long bay free from boat traffic. It offers near-perfect conditions for all levels of windsurfers. There is a lovely simple resort nearby called Sorobon Beach Resort which we highly recommend. Jibe City and Bonaire Windsurf Place will gear you up and provide the instructions if you need some. 1 day windsurfer rental is $60 US and 1 week is about $320 US.

Kitesurfers should go to Pink Beach and Atlantis Beach on the southern end of Bonaire which offers flat water sailing. (Sorry folks, no kitesurfing in Lac Bay.) Also try the beaches of Bonaire’s little off shore islet called Klein Bonaire. Bonaire Fun Apartments are simple and very reasonably priced will make an excellent accommodation choice. There are no rentals so take your kite and board from home. If you need lessons Kiteboarding Bonaire School is there for you on south-west side of the island.

While in Bonaire take some time off wind or kitesurfing and go see for yourself why divers and snorkelers from around the world come here to spend their vacation. Believe it or not but the entire coastline of Bonaire is a protected marine park! Another must do thing is visiting wildlife preserve called Washington Slagbaai National Park. The park has secluded beaches, caverns, a bird sanctuary with some of the most colorful tropical birds and lots of hiking trails. Climb some of park’s steep hills and you’ll be rewarded with quite panoramic views.

When your vacation comes to the end, you will be leaving this peaceful, relaxing island with a sense of awe waiting to go back already.

Happy Sailing,

Windresorts Administration.
