Vela Shop is located on the sandy peninsula of Francisqui Island. From here you can sail flat water, bump and jump, small side shore waves, or go explore the many adjacent islands. A local ferry will get you from Grand Roque to Francisqui Island in no time. Vela rents windsurfing equipment only. No kitesurfing rentals are available at this time. Also because Los Roques is an extremely remote destination, the rental equipment here is comprised of older-generation gear hand-picked from Vela’s past rental fleets. Also due to the nature of the sailing at this location they have a limited number of large and beginner boards. 1 week windsurfing gear rental with Vela is about US $270. Windsurfing Lessons: Beginner lessons including equipment (2-4 students) 1 hour – US $45 Private Beginner lessons including equipment 1 hour – US $55 Kitesurfing Lessons were not available at our last check. For kitesurfers who want to rent gear we recommend to arrange their flight to Los Roques via Margarita island. El Yaque area in Margarita has a number of rental shops most with the newest and the most advanced gear. Get your gear and head to Los Roques for the rest of your vacation. Also once in Los Roques many of posadas (little local hotels) may organize kitesurfing rental for $45 US a day from rental centers based in Caracas.
